PodCasts

Podcasts can be played from phone apps or on sites directly on your computer.

They are free to listen too and these days almost anyone can be a broadcaster.  So there are many which also means there are a lot of bad ones. So where to start? Below are some suggestions that Paige likes to listen too.

You need to find your podcast app sign (looks just like the image here) and almost all phones have it automatically. Most commonly it is under area area for Tunes. From there go into the application and click search. Once you have found the podcast you were looking for you can see all the past episodes, topics and pick which one you want to listen too. You also have the option to subscribe so when new podcasts are released you will be notified by a pop up on your phone.

List of Podcasts to consider:

  • Stuff You Should Know – been around for over 10 years.  Topics vary and the two hosts are kind and full of knowledge.  Having a tough drive home?  Traveling?  Rushing around? Listen to the obscure topics and let it relax you. Plus it may put your own day into perspective.

  • Smartless - actors Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett interview various people. One invites someone to come on the podcast and the other two guess who it is. They often ask and cover things you wouldn’t know about the person. They also make me laugh as well. Kind and something fun to listen to while I drive.

  • Breaking Bread with Tom Papa - over 80 episodes and Paige really likes this comedian’s sense of humor. He has guests join him and he enjoys making food, drinking wine and talking. He is sometimes referred to as a ‘clean comedian’ but that is just why Paige likes him. He responds with compassion and therefore if you need more of that in your life try listening to it a bit and put a smile on your face. Watch it shift your mood.

  • Jonathan Foust – Meditation Teacher and this is often a recording coming from his Monday night class which has been virtual since 2020.  He was Paige’s teacher at Kripalu and continues to be an inspiration for her. On the Podcasts it is mostly his Dharma talk and the talks are inspirational and make you think.   Most often the talk doesn’t include the times for silent meditation that he starts with so before and after you listen find time to sit and be still.

  • LifeSpa Ayurveda Meets Modern Science – Dr John Douillard – Paiges has had the honor and privilege to study from him at Kripalu.  Has a wonderful way of explaining Ayurveda with scientific facts. He is also available on Yoga Journal for a six week on-line course.

  • Metta Hour with Sharon Salzberg – did you know there are different meditations?  Not everything is sound or mindfulness.   Sharon is an amazing author and teacher.  She often has guests on her podcast. Experience love or compassion mediation with Metta.

  • The Yoga Pro with Pamela Crane - Yoga Therapist and interoceptive teacher has guests in each session that talk about their experiences, knowledge and yoga. Paige is in an episode discussing eating disorders (Feb 2021).

  • J Brown Yoga Talks – J has been interviewing Yoga Teachers from around the world for years now.  Although sometimes his talks seem to touch on mostly studio yoga teaching and the troubles of running the business, he does sometimes get those who teach out of that space.  So it introduces you to many different areas of practice such as prison yoga, elderly, and styles.

  • Clutch – a podcast from Icewater yoga – So many hosts like to lead their talk but this one is really great at asking good questions and letting the speaker explain.

  • Heart Wisdom Podcast – Jack Kornfield – very well known and respected meditation teacher.

  • Tara Brach – So many know her from her meditation lectures and books.  She teaches here in DC as well and can be found locally for her live meditations in the Bethesda area.

  • Mayim Bialik Breakdown - Yes the actress but also the neuroscientist who has interesting discussions on science for the common person as well as displaying her comical wit and style. Thought science was boring? Ok maybe it is but maybe she can make it interesting and fun. Why not get your brain focusing on something else besides worry and fear?

  • Everyday Sublime - Josh Summers leads meditations, talks and discussions. Each episode may be different. He has some of my favorite yoga and meditation teachers and I learn something new about them.

Order does not list a preference.
