Specific Areas she specializes in:
Adolscents:
Grades 6 to 12th grade is her speciality. She has worked with this age group a long time and during the Covid Pandemic chronic cases of being isolated and alone left many battling with other issues listed below. Many of their issues are not unique and family members also are dealing with or contributing to the triggers. Her plan of care isn’t to fix but help build more awareness and help patients and families communicate clearer. Often her focus is on building compassion, discovering joy, and providing knowledge they can explore in their daily life.
Eating Disorders:
There are many kinds of eating disorders (ED) and none are treated the same. See Kinds of ED for more as well. Often there are multiple mental health and physical health concerns. During the pandemic eating disorders rose 13% in young adults and adolescents. Paige has an MS in Science and spent years working with this population so she can offer many tools to help deal with the variety of obstacles from OCD, ADHD, Chronic anxiety, depression, sleep disorder and negative self talk etc…all to help mitigate conditions and communicate to other professionals. She also battled with her own ED so she shares this publicly as well.
Cancer Patients:
There are many stages and kinds along with the science changing rapidly each day. Although Paige has studied with many to understand cancer more, her scope as a yoga therapist is not to promise healing or cures. Instead her focus is to help mitigate other factors cancer patients and their families are experiencing during this time. Therefore she understands contra-indications and will lead the practice with the treatment in mind. However her plan of care is often focused on mitigating stress, anxiety and depletion.
Autoimmune disease:
There are many Autoimmune diseases out there and many aren’t even told that is what they are dealing with. Furthermore the science is still learning how to help mitigate the hormone responsible for disease. Even diabetes is an Autoimmune disease. Paige will remain within her scope of yoga therapy practice and will not address fixing the disease, however will help build your awareness, address other contributors or symptoms.
PTSD/Trauma:
Paige is specifically certified with PTSD training and has spent over six years with clients that are Veterans, First Responders and others dealing with chronic trauma such as rape, abuse and grief. Many don’t realize that PTSD is not just a military symptom. It is one classification of a chronic anxiety and the brain isn’t able to respond clearly between what is now and what isn’t. The bodies freeze response or dorsal part of the brain takes over to protect and what Paiges specializes in is working along with other talk therapists and help that person try it out what was talked about and now try it with real time applications.
Chronic Anxiety and/or Depression:
Many specific areas also means that emotional and chemical imbalances create a chronic state of anxiety, depression or both. Paige isn’t a doctor but there to understand in working with the medical field ways to build more awareness and tools that may help shift from one state to another. Often times a client will give permission to talk to their doctor or therapist and the information becomes helpful to that professional to talk to their patient and discuss treatments or adjustments.
Mental Health:
This country still has a long way to go in understanding the chronic conditions of mental health. Paige is trained in the mental studies but also understands the battle of self-identity centered around controlling outcomes, rewards and goals. You may feel lost or hopeless or may have hurt ourselves and others along the way and now wonder ‘who am I’ and yoga therapy can help you rediscover this. She specializes in ADHD, Autism and other mental conditions; being able to help other professionals in their tests and identification as well.
Pregnant/Prenatal:
Not an illness but still it is a specialized area. She is certified for over 10 years in prenatal yoga and teaches group classes, private and workshops for couples. She has the experience to offer modifications and also draw light on things that a patient may want to ask other professionals about. Her scope is often to help the Mother during all stages of pregnancy to mitigate stress, sleep imbalances and hormonal mood. Tools she offers may also be useful during the stressful time of childbirth. Furthermore she instructs pelvic floor breathing; something she learned in prenatal training but has gone on to teach this to other populations that need it. During Covid many needed pelvic floor breath to help with digestive issues.
Stroke and Brain Injury:
Stroke survivor herself, a brain injury impacts a person differently within their body, mind and emotions. Paige is trained to offer the evidenced based support and build a plan of care around yoga therapy. She is able to adapt the plan of care to help with physical, mental or emotional issues that the person and family is experiencing. Fatigue is normal after a stroke so she is often working on guided rest and education on that person’s sleep rhythms.
Multiple Sclerosis:
Paige understands the evidence based science behind this disease and has worked with many clients with various stages of MS. There is no known cure for MS so the plan of care is to help deal with the daily function, reduce stress and fatigue. By building awareness patients learn to communicate clearer to their professionals and family.
Chair or Bed Yoga:
For any age or reason sometimes you are recovering from injury, treatments and may need to practice in a chair or in bed. Maybe physically getting up from the floor is just not possible. During the Covid Pandemic she has lead many in practices they could do online from their desk or on the couch. Additionally she has lead yoga therapy in the hospital bed and their families, who need some relief from the worry and fear of their environment and experiences.
Chronic Illness:
There are kinds of illnesses that impact the body and mind; respiratory function is also often an issue as in the case for auto immune disease. It becomes identified as chronic when it has lasted for over 30 days. Working with a doctor or professional may be necessary to help invoke change or be aware of other issues. Paige builds a plan of care around knowing this and her scope may include ways to improve awareness to reactions, truths and beliefs to help a patient shift habits.
Acute Injury:
Different than the definition of chronic, the medical field deems something acute when there is a specific point and reason something happened. A person has a fall and breaks a bone in their body or they ran in a race and pulled a muscle in their foot. Paige has experience and tools to help that patient with the recovery and often integrates bands, balls and focuses on building strength once the recovery period has passed. Different than PT though, her focus expands to include emotional and mental tools that help someone who may be compensating and help them apply awareness in their daily function.
Addictions:
Alcohol, drugs or other ways human beings may be addicted to a mental pattern or behavior. Paige has worked at rehabs for addictions and grew up raised with the complications as a child of an addict. Her plan of care is knowing about the mental illness and tools to help improve awareness and redevelop or invoke changes in reactions to clearer responses. Most often she is helping patients with OCD, Anxiety, depression, sleep disorders and ADHD.
Scoliosis:
Each person has some mild difference side to side, but Paige is trained to understand the chronic ways scoliosis impacts someone and the various stages it has as well as developing a plan of care program for yoga therapy.
PARKINSON'S :
Disease that is a brain injury however mentioned here separately as many may not immediately consider it as such. Paige understands the evidenced based science behind this disease and how to develop a plan of care for yoga therapy that may help improve day to day function. There is no known cure right now so instead her plan of care is helping the patient learn to adapt, slow down, build strength and improve balance.
